Upcoming Events:

Film screening - Fowl Play (a documentary)

Where: Vancouver Public Library, downtown branch (Alma Vandussen room, lower level)
When: Saturday March 6, 2010, doors at 2pm, film starts at 2:30pm

Fowl Play illuminates the plight of factory-farmed laying hens through interviews with people who are fighting diligently to save them. A story of hope emerges as footage recorded inside battery cage and other facilities is balanced with personal accounts of the individuals working to protect the often-forgotten victims of the egg industry. The suffering that animals face on factory farms won't end until enough people are motivated to change it. Fowl Play connects the dots between consumers and the practices they support, and leaves viewers with a groundbreaking message of personal change and community outreach.

Film screening - Meat the Truth (a documentary)

Where: Vancouver Public Library, downtown branch (Alma Vandussen room, lower level)
When: Saturday April 24, 2010, doors at 3:30pm, film starts at 4:00pm

The documentary Meat the Truth is the first major project undertaken by the Nicolaas G. Pierson Foundation. Meat the Truth is a high-profile documentary, presented by Marianne Thieme (leader of the Party for the Animals), which forms an addendum to earlier films that have been made about climate change. Although such films have convincingly succeeded in drawing public attention to the issue of global warming, they have repeatedly ignored one of the most important causes of climate change, namely: intensive livestock production. Meat the Truth has drawn attention to this by demonstrating that livestock farming generates more greenhouse gas emissions worldwide than all cars, lorries, trains, boats and planes added together.
